Which bike chain is ok to use?
I have a Giant SCR 2 Road Bike. I recently had it serviced and have just taken it out to make sure its ok. They have replaced a chain link with a different type of chain so now the chain slips. I have a spare chain which i can put on it but i am unsure if it's ok to do so. The original chain was a shimano ch-hg53 and the new chain would be a shimano ch-hg73. I do not have time to go back to change it as i am cycling tomorrow morning.
Many thanks for anyone who answers this
Both are 9-sp Shimano chains. The HG73 is just a cosmetically nicer version of the HG53. Weight is the same, function is the same. Your bike won't know the difference.
What kind of shop screws up a chain by using the wrong links? Find another shop before they really screw something up.
