Gas Scooters Through The Years
The first patents for scooters go back as far as 1921st The Razor scooter was later developed by Gino Tsai in Shanghai, Taiwan and was an instant success with the public. It did not take long for motor scooter popularity to expand all over the world.
Even before 1950 were there are as many as 110,000 scooters on the road in Italy alone. It has only slightly more than 50 years has been selling the Vespa-Douglas Corporation in the UK their first gas scooters. The Douglas Corporation was on the verge of bankruptcy when they first began by selling their gas scooters. It was a big hit in the 1950 Motorcycle Show and saved the company from possible financial Ruin.
From 1950 to 1958 over 125,000 of their gas-powered Vespa scooters sold in the United Kingdom. Why the great success? During this time, the European Countries do not have a lot of money and there was not much gas available to the public. Due to the scarcity of gasoline and the high fuel consumption of the gas scooters it increased rapidly in popularity.
It did not take long for the Italian models (Piaggio Vespa and Lambretta from Innocenti out) to branch out into other countries. In France, became so popular the French tried, in the boom by manufacturing their own. From the early to mid 1950s the sale of gas scooters climbed to over 1 million per year in France alone.
Other countries wanted to profit from the latest cry and tried to climb on the bandwagon. While some others were unsuccessful. Germany began to manufacture larger touring models, but this did not satisfy from the public, by smaller, cheaper and more fuel-efficient models Italy and France. These smaller models were extremely popular in the European market.
Tourist scooter manufacturer in Germany built some very strong and powerful Versions were, and install the first electric starter. These larger versions were for traveling very, touring and even racing, but were not as popular as the smaller, cheaper and more efficient models used for short distances on the road in the city.
Vespa with the marketing of some very popular gas powered scooters Piaggio from the GS and the GS 125cc 150cc. These were improved versions of earlier models for several reasons. The biggest reason is probably because the heavy Transmission bars were replaced by smaller and lighter cables.
France's Roussey Scooters tried to one-up the Italian competition authority coming out with a 175cc model. These were very nice vehicles and included the first water-cooled engines, along with other new features, but because it is a pull-start not with the newer models could compete in Italy that were already using versions with electric starts.
As these wonderful vehicles have over the years they have been growing in popularity developed in the world. Today they are everywhere. They are best bought to work economically, and are very practical and functional. These are not toys and are really to drive a lot of fun. There is electricity, gas powered, foldable, mobility and utility scooters.
The electric types are often used for children and adolescents, are also popular with the elderly and disabled. Models for people with disabilities are generally as mobility scooters. Folding varieties can be folded up and easily under desks stored in cabinets or in other small towns and utility types are used for many different purposes. They are becoming increasingly popular as go karts, mini bikes or go carts. Scooters, mopeds or go peds are sometimes called, very functional, comfortable, and are here to stay.
